Wireless Seismic, a US-based recording system for seismic data acquisition, has raised $12.5m of a planned $20m series D round, according to a regulatory filing first seen by data provider CB Insights.
Kent Wilkinson, head of energy company Chesapeake’s NG Ventures unit and a member of the Global Corporate Venturing Powerlist 100, and Larry Lunardi, vice-president of geophysics for Chesapeake, are listed as a director of the filing, which said the money came from three investors so far.
In December 2010, Wireless Seismic raised $19.5m in its previous disclosed round from its existing shareholder Chesapeake Energy and Energy Ventures, a venture capital firm for upstream oil and gas technologies, as a new investor.
