Grace Yun Xia has left China-headquartered internet company Tencent, where she was senior director of corporate strategy and investment, to join Singapore-based venture capital firm Jungle Ventures as principal.
Yun Xia was hired partly due to her experience in Chinese markets, according to DealStreetAsia. She will be tasked with helping Jungle Ventures’ portfolio companies maximise their opportunities in China.
In an interview with DealStreetAsia, Yun Xia said her arrival would not change the investment strategy of Jungle Ventures, which will continue to focus on Southeast Asia and India rather than looking at China-based startups.
Yun Xia joined Tencent in early 2015 and was responsible for identifying strategic opportunities in emerging markets, developing the company’s international product ecosystem, overseeing deal implementation and deploying capital.
Prior to her Tencent move, Yun Xia spent just over a year as director of corporate strategy and investment at US-based digital marketing technology company Amobee, where she led strategic business development including joint ventures, investments, partnerships and commercial relationships.
Yun Xia had previously been at computing equipment producer Dell for four years, initially as a global product manager. She spent two years as senior manager for corporate strategy and investment before taking the director of global strategic alliances and investment role.
Yun Xia told DealStreetAsia: “At Tencent, I was looking at Southeast Asia and that made me realise that the opportunities in this part of the world were tremendous.
“Given my learnings from Tencent, and my previous stint at Silicon Valley, there is a lot of value that I can bring and therefore this is a great place to be for the next chapter of my career.”
