Comcast Ventures, the corporate venturing vehicle for mass media company Comcast, participated in a $25m series C round for US-based big data visualisation company Zoomdata yesterday.
Goldman Sachs led the round, investing through its Principal Strategic Investments Group. Accel Partners, Columbus Nova Technology Partners, New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and Razor’s Edge also participated.
Zoomdata produces visual analytics technology for big data and has built a platform that can combine existing enterprise data with data in the cloud, and real-time data with historical data.
The round boosted the company’s overall funding to $47.2m since it was founded in 2012, its last round being a $17m series B in October 2014 backed by NEA, Columbus Nova, Razor’s Edge and B7.
Rana Yared, managing director of Goldman Sachs’ Principal Strategic Investments Group, will join Zoomdata’s board of directors in conjunction with the round, while Hilary Packer, managing director of its technology division, will join Zoomdata’s advisory board.
Matt Carbonara, principal at Comcast Ventures, said: “Big data is disrupting consumer markets in every industry, including media and communications.
“Zoomdata is at the cutting edge of helping organisations make sense of that big data through its unique visual analytics solution on a modern data architecture.”
