Dialpad’s series C talks lift round to $52m

US-based cloud communication platform developer Dialpad has added $17m from investors including GV, a subsidiary of internet and technology group Alphabet, to a series C round now sized at $52m.

Venture capital firms Andreessen Horowitz, Amasia and Felicis Ventures contributed funding, as did Section 32, the VC fund formed by GV founder Bill Maris. Maris joined Dialpad’s board of directors in March 2016.

Founded in 2011 as Firespotter Labs and also formerly known as Switch Communications, Dialpad operates a cloud-based communications service aimed at businesses.

The platform includes voice and video calls, conferencing and messaging capabilities, and is compatible with a range of devices and platforms.

Dialpad claims to have more than 48,000 subscribers including on-demand ride service Uber, communications equipment producer Motorola Solutions and media company Financial Times.

The series C round’s $35m first tranche closed in May 2015, and co-founder and CEO Craig Walker told VentureBeat the round was structured so that investments would be staggered and investors would have a rolling close.

Amasia led the first tranche, investing alongside GV, telecommunications firm Softbank, Felicis Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz and Work-Bench Ventures. GV invested $5m in Dialpad in 2011 before returning in 2012 for a $15m series B round led by Andreessen Horowitz.
