GE Healthcare gees up Edison Accelerator

GE Healthcare, a subsidiary of power and industrial technology producer General Electric, formed a UK-based accelerator yesterday with Wayra UK, an open innovation subsidiary of telecommunications company Telefónica.

Edison Accelerator will concentrate on developers of technology that brings artificial intelligence to branches of the healthcare sector such as medical imaging, oncology and patient experience. It is named after GE Healthcare’s intelligence software platform, Edison.

The initiative follows on from GE Healthcare accelerators in India and China, and the first six startups will be admitted to Edison early next year.

Catherine Estrampes, Healthcare’s CEO of Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “The future of innovation will be about working across silos and collaborating across the healthcare ecosystem, including startups, research centres, hospitals and clinicians.

“The Edison Accelerator brings together leading technology providers, developers and academic institutions under a single, connected ecosystem to create real impact from the bottom line to better patient outcomes.”
