The corporate venturing unit of US-based chipmaker Intel has helped walkie talkie company Voxer raise more than $30m.
Voxer is an app which turns your smart phone into a walkie talkie, sending instant audio, text and photo messages.
Intel Capital was joined in the round by venture firm Institutional Venture Partners, and various angels including SV Angel, CrunchFund, Chris Dixon and Roger McNamee, according to news provider TechCrunch yesterday. TechCrunch added the valuation of Voxer was $180m, pre-money. Voxer’s spokesman said the TechCrunch story was accurate, other than he said he could not comment on valuation.
TechCrunch added Voxer had previously raised nearly $20 million, the majority of which came from founder Tom Katis..
