Jakarta MRT gets accelerator on track

Local government-owned transport system Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (Jakarta MRT) has formed a startup accelerator dubbed MRTJ Accel.

The company will use the eight-week initiative to partner Indonesia-based startups developing innovative products or services that could be commercialised through Jakarta MRT’s transport ecosystem.

Registration for the scheme opens on June 8 and the finalists will be announced on July 30. Participants will be able to leverage Jakarta MRT’s in-vehicle advertising and physical facilities to carry out proof-of-concept work.

MRTJ Accel will not invest in startups but will offer networking opportunities with mentors including corporate venturing figures such as BRI Ventures’ vice-president of investor relations and strategy, Markus Rahardja, MDI Ventures CEO Donald Wihardja and Alvin Evander, its head of synergy and accelerator.

William Sabandar, president of Jakarta MRT, said in a statement: “This program aims to create beneficial cooperation for these companies and startups. And, of course, it will have a good impact on increasing revenue (and) branding, to the experience of Jakarta MRT service users.” [Translated from Indonesian by OpenGov Asia]
