Wayra exits as Rocket takes away Volo

Internet holding company Rocket Internet has acquired Germany-based food delivery service startup Volo, a graduate of telecommunications company Telefonica’s accelerator programme, for an undisclosed sum, TechCrunch has reported.

Volo operates an online platform that connects customers with restaurant that can deliver food to them. Its business model differs from other members of Rocket’s Global Online Takeaway Group such as Foodpanda or Delivery Hero in that it allows the restaurants to handle delivery themselves.

Volo, which launched in late 2014, is the first startup to exit from the Munich branch of Wayra, the accelerator run by Telefonica. Rocket Internet’s acquisition of the company came days after it invested $6.4m in one of its competitors, Belgium-based Take Eat Easy.
