WeWork spies FieldLens for acquisition

Workspace operator WeWork has acquired US-based project management app developer FieldLens for an undisclosed amount, providing an exit to telecommunications firm SoftBank.

Founded in 2011, FieldLens had built a mobile field management app that facilitates communication across building sites and tracks progress as well as additional factors that affect a project, such as weather or other environmental factors.

FieldLens will be absorbed into WeWork’s project and construction team, which is examining ways to improve the construction process, though the company’s app will remain available.

David Fano, WeWork’s chief product office, revealed in a blog post announcing the deal that it is already one of FieldLens’ biggest customers.

FieldLens had raised more than $12m in funding. SoftBank first invested in the company in 2012, co-leading a $1.9m seed round with High Peaks Venture Partners through its SoftBank Capital Unit.

The 2012 round, which included Quotidian Ventures, NYC Seed, Contour Venture Partners and assorted angel investors, was followed by an $8m round in 2014 that was led by OpenView Venture Partners and backed by Softbank, High Peaks, Contour, Lerer Ventures, Borealis Ventures and NYC Seed.
